Being an ’empath’ doesn’t mean taking on other people’s baggage

Often people refer to themselves as “empaths” when they’re actually describing feeling emotional overload. All too often, people speak about being an empath as if it’s synonymous with absorbing other people’s pain, or as if other people’s emotions are contagious. You know: “I’m an empath, so it’s particularly hard to be in a relationship with someone with such a big personality.”
